Synopsis

Newly retired and scarred by the Angolan war and the murder of his father at the hands of his brother, Rodolfo experiences a double shock: he rediscovers the love of his youth in his sister-in-law Nora and receives the news that his parricidal brother, terminally ill, will be released from prison and return to the family home.

Old grudges and buried secrets resurface regarding the crime that shattered the family, until the arrival of his daughter and the irruption of a young man into a ruined Havana offer Rodolfo one last lifeline.

A dramatic novel about a broken family that condenses fifty years of a country’s history.
