General information

This group exhibition, produced by Qatar Museums, presents moving-image works centered on contemporary experiences of community life, memory, transnational crossings, and exile. What unites these artworks is their exploration of the space and time of the Arab world, Africa, and South Asia as a versatile trope for telling stories about the past, present, and future, whether grounded in social reality or dreamlike fiction. Filmmakers and audiovisual artists allow ghosts to meet us in this imagination-governed territory. These ghosts are memories of a resurgent past, but also projections of an unknown future shaped by intertwined global and personal issues.

The exhibition proposes a definition of cinema and video as both phenomenon and language. It brings together unidentified audiovisual objects (created by emerging talents or award-winning filmmakers) that deconstruct the idea of traditional narrative in favor of seeking new, inspiring dialogues. Cinema is not only a mirror of political change: it participates in it, anticipates it, accompanies it, supports it, and transforms it into a bold aesthetic approach.
