Alan Sierra’s work Club discreto presents a space that functions simultaneously as a nightclub and a reading room. It was conceived to periodically house a selection of homoerotic texts written in Latin America during the 20th and 21st centuries.

This two-day workshop proposes working with reading aloud as a form of literary circulation. Drawing from an anthology of homoerotic poetry written in contexts of persecution, participants will examine how discretion allowed desire to find forms of expression where it was not possible to name it openly. The goal is to collectively expand a repertoire of poems that emerged under these conditions. Each participant will choose selected texts and incorporate them into the installation through reading them aloud.

This activity is part of the Public Program for the exhibition Constellations and Drifts: Latin American Art from the FEMSA Collection.
