Textile cartographies: embroidering memory

Jennifer Furukawa

Thursday June 25, 2026
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

This workshop invites participants to reflect on migration, displacement, and memory through embroidery and textile creation. Using the narratives present in the work of Wendy Cabrera as a starting point, participants will explore how textiles can become emotional maps that safeguard stories of movement, belonging, and transformation.

Using felt, thread, and textile assembly, each participant will create an embroidered piece inspired by journeys, memories, territories, or personal and collective connections related to migration. The workshop aims to open a space for sensitive dialogue about the experiences of transit and the traces they leave on bodies, objects, and memory.
