Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey presents Crows Fly North, an exhibition by Mexican artist Wendy Cabrera Rubio, on view from May 22 to September 20, 2026.
Curated by Brenda Fernández and commissioned by Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey for Espacio Uno, located in the museum lobby, the exhibition examines a historical episode surrounding government policies toward migrants arriving in the United States to join the labor force.
The artist draws from the Bracero Program (1942–1964), during which the United States received migrant workers through an agreement with Mexico in response to labor shortages during World War II.
Although the project addresses a lesser-known episode of the Bracero Program—when migrants from Nuevo León traveled to North America to work in sugar beet fields—the works establish a dialogue with and resonate deeply within the current sociopolitical context.
The exhibition’s central work is Melting Pot (2026), a 6-minute and 55-second video in which puppets shaped as a bald eagle and a turkey host a televised cooking show. Their interaction reveals a clear power dynamic between the two birds: the eagle, associated with American patriotic symbols, appears extroverted and dominant, while the turkey is timid and submissive, ultimately becoming the main dish.
