The Contemporary Art Museum of Monterrey (MARCO) presents We Would Like to Answer Some Questions: marcelaygina collective 1997–2010, a career-spanning review of one of the most relevant collectives of its time, whose work questions the standards imposed on women in society, as well as social inequality and border dynamics.
Formed by artists Marcela Quiroga and Georgina Arizpe, the collective was active for 13 years and became significant in the history of contemporary Mexican art due to the forcefulness of its proposals; however, their work has been scarcely studied and analyzed. For this reason, MARCO brings together in this exhibition documentation, object-based artworks, installations, sketches, and performance records.
We Would Like to Answer Some Questions: marcelaygina collective 1997–2010 is organized as a chronological journey divided into four thematic axes that reflect the evolution of their concerns and ideals over the years. The exhibition is part of MARCO’s ongoing efforts to revisit the careers of artists who have played a relevant role in both the national and international art scenes. It also forms part of a cycle dedicated to women artists, with the aim of highlighting their production today.
We extend our gratitude to the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), an institutional partner supporting the production of this exhibition.
