General Information

Throughout his career, artist Miguel Rodríguez Sepúlveda has questioned the economic order and the value of symbols in collective memory, which can be seen in his career retrospective Fuga y entropía (Flight and Entropy), opening June 23 at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey (MARCO).

Curated by Mariana Mañón, the exhibition focuses on the last 20 years of the artist’s career with a selection of 32 works, including video, installation, sculpture, intervened objects, performance, and photography.

On the other hand, the concept of entropy has its origins in science, and its meaning in the context of his work is “the tendency of the universe to self-balance, to generate order.” Within this repetition, the artist exchanges energy with the elements he works with, from the intervention of objects and the body to the participation of the public.

The manipulation of symbols is one of the constants in his process, questioning the historical and social narrative that is assumed to be part of the identity of the inhabitants in their geopolitical dimension. In this way, he addresses issues such as migration, corporeality, nationalism, and the economic and artistic system, among others.
