The Museum of Contemporary Art of Monterrey presents Lightopia, a selection of more than 300 works that illustrate the representative power of light, from the beginnings of industrial society to its visions that will determine our future.

With its interdisciplinary approach, the exhibition shows how lighting design has influenced living spaces in the modern era, investigates current pragmatic change, and connects these developments more closely with cultural history. It is the first exhibition to relate the different facets of lighting design to current discourses and to represent them comprehensively with examples from art, design, architecture, and many other disciplines.

Electric light has revolutionized our living space like no other medium over the last century. It changed our cities, created new ways of living and working, and became the driving force behind progress in industry, medicine, and communication.

The selection of works includes outstanding creations by contemporary artists and designers such as Olafur Eliasson, Troika, Chris Fraser, Daan Roosegaarde, Joris Laarman, realities: united, and mischer´traxler, among others, illustrating new possibilities in lighting design.

The exhibition begins with an inventory of our current living space, which is profoundly marked by light. Many sectors of Western society depend on this resource, and the negative consequences of this development are resource consumption and pollution.
