How do we get out?
This exhibition brings together a selection of works by artist Teresa Margolles created between 2003 and 2025. The discourse relates to her work in northern Mexico and to certain issues in Latin America, highlighting the border tension in each of the moments of the exhibition, both in its territorial dimension and in its link to the body.
The pain and emptiness left by human loss in society are the focus of Margolles’ discourse. From her early days as a forensic scientist, she has been gradually outlining the emotional collapse caused by violent deaths and forced disappearances, from the individual to the collective level. This survey covers two decades of practice in which geographies shift; however, not only does this reality remain unchanged, it becomes normalized.
Margolles’ artistic practice is based on the documentary concept—from photography and video to evidence—while at other times it positions itself in relation to classical structures of contemporary art, traditionally associated with minimalism, but drenched with human elements, fluids, and experiences related to pain.
Three new commissions shift the discourse from the current situation in Mexico to the human condition, placing it in those moments in history when the annihilation of the other defines us.
