For more than 25 years, Tillers worked on a profound, searching redefinition, through his work of both his identity and that of Australia, his country of origin, a place considered an extension of the West, confined to reproduction and to cultural dependency. And these are precisely the concepts around which his work revolves, and where in he explores –with the technology of reproduction- refocuses and reinterprets everything that he has received from the history of art and from modernism. Tillers offers his own interpretation of appropriation, authorship imitation, origins and originals with copy, and gives his views on what it is like to live the identity of someone else, imposed through a learned language (English), conventionalism, and the values of “others” that, finally, become his.
