MARCO was proud to have a solo show of one of the most important contemporary artists of the Hispanic Americas: the Nicaraguan Armando Morales. He is a painter that has traveled worldwide, but who at the roots of his work continues to represent the exuberance and sensuality of his homeland, as well as the richness of its culture and history.

The work of Armando Morales has gone from realism to abstraction and returning to realism but charged with mysticism and magic. He influences range from Cezanne and the Mexican muralists to Antonio Tàpies and Giorgio De Chirico. Morales was a professor and diplomat and during the 198Os he represented Nicaragua at UNESCO in Paris.

This exhibition presented pieces that are like the best in Latin American literature, they are filled with fantastic, enigmatic and heroic scenes and personages. Each work seems to freeze a dramatic or poetic instant and transforms reality into a sublime moment.
