CURATORSHIP AND MUSEOGRAPHY: Jorge Contreras, Museum curator.

MARCO presented an individual exhibition by Claudio Bravo, the famed Chilean artist who now makes his home in Morocco.

The exhibition intended to transport the visitor to a serene, meditation-like environment, by beholding everyday images and scenes that go beyond their rendering to offer musings on presence in its various guises.

Born in Valparaiso, in 1936, Bravo showed an early passion not only for painting, but also for poetry, and his artistry led him to having his works shown in galleries starting at age 17.

Recurrent themes in his paintings are still lifes, fabrics, packagings, and portraits, in which light plays a central role by creating an atmosphere that compels the viewer to focus on that particular painting. Renowned by the mastery of his stroke, Bravo has managed to capture emotions, attitudes, presences, and, in the process, carry out a veritable study of human beings’ gaze.
