The grand masters of the fourteenth through nineteen centuries will never leave us, their themes are still here today. For the first time the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey presented those artists into our galleries for us to contemplate them and their work along side the creations of our contemporary artists.

This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico . Their collection is comprised of some of the most outstanding are from the Italian baroque period, French academic art, and nineteenth-century British art.

For this exhibition, MARCO presented more than 100 classic works together with a dozen recent creations, which allowed thematic discoveries that, in spite of the passing of centuries, continue to catch our eyes.

The fascination for landsc ap es, the enigma that encircles a feminine gaze, the earthly pleasures, the concept of masculinity, spirituality, these are the themes that take sh ap e in the works of great masters like Goya and Zurbarán, c ap tured on canvas with brushes, those most favored instruments in earlier centuries.

With the passing of time, technology has opened new and important terrains in human life and art has not been excluded from this. Armed with new “we ap ons”—photogr ap hic cameras and video—today's artists have found ways to express their interests, coincidently similar, if not identical, to the painters of long ago.

With Passage to the Present. Masterworks from the Museo de Arte de Ponce , MARCO proposed a historical phenomenon that affects everything that h ap pens in a determined moment, but in essence human beings still remain the same.
