The honesty and power of the work of Paula Rego (Lisbon, 1935), who is considered to be one of the leading artists in figurative painting of recent years, can been seen in her first Latin American retrospective at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey (MARCO).

Her work reflects an unusual intensity; a visual narrative of the human condition constructed by interplaying experience with wishes, fantasies and memories. Rego’s work questions social roles and the way in which destiny is individually and collectively controlled.

The exhibition Paula Rego provides the opportunity to see almost sixty years of her artistic path in which she has experimented with figurative painting in diverse ways, from her surrealist paintings to prints and her major endeavor in pastel.
